Lakeshore Symphonic Band
The Lakeshore Symphonic Band has been playing as a group since 1976. For more than 30 years,
it has performed mostly classical band music; however, concerts have also included music
from the Big Band era, children's music, popular show tunes, and Christmas programs.
Through the years, the LSB has received invitations to perform in other regions of
Wisconsin and abroad. In January 2005, the band was honored to perform in Wisconsin Rapids
at the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Band Association.
The Band's Purpose
The LSB provides a musical outlet that enables its members to maintain and further
develop their musical skills and give back to the community a high quality musical
experience. The band also encourages area young people to further their music education
by holding an annual concerto contest and awarding a scholarship to the winner.
As a non-profit organization, the band prides itself in being able to provide these
opportunities for audiences, band members, and future musicians. LSB depends solely
on membership dues and donations for funding. All concerts are open to the public at no charge.
About The Players
LSB practices at the John Long Middle School in Grafton, and it draws approximately 60 volunteer musicians
from Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Washington, and Milwaukee Counties. While occupations and musical
experiences vary among its members, they all have a serious interest in providing a high
quality performance for their audience. Members are engaged in diverse employment
ranging from homemakers, lawyers and engineers, teachers, medical professionals,
students, business owners, and retirees to name a few.
